Chianti Holiday Packages > Siena and Chianti: A journey among taste and History

(4 nights) Price per person: € 415,00

This route starts from one of the most beautiful location of Chianti: Villa Vignamaggio. Villa Vignamaggio, a prosperous farm surrounded by an elegant Italian garden, is settled into the most typical Chianti’s landscape among olive trees and vineyard. At lunch you can have home cooked fresh food and then taste Vignamaggio’s products (Chianti wine and Vinsanto) as well as a brief cooking course.

The day after you can explore some of the most beautiful castles and medieval villages of Chianti region and enjoy some pleasant tasting breaks here, too.

The first stopover is Radda, the old main city of Lega del Chianti with its very evocative alleys where you can take a walk along the city wall to enjoy the wonderful sight of the surrounding countryside. Lunch will be served at the farm house fattoria del castello di Volpaia, a precious walled village that dates back to the XI century.

Our second stopover is at Wine Bar BarUcci for a gorgeous tasting of typical Tuscan products (as lardo (lard), sausages, Siena’s pecorino cheese as well as panzanella (stale bread salad with onions, cucumbers basil and tomatoes and precious local). In the afternoon we will follow the route of castles. Chianti and Valdarno are divided by this with a lot of castles for a defensive reason. As a matter of fact this was the region of “Lega del Chianti” that during Middle age was the last bastion of Florence bordering on the Siena's republic.

Here you can admire one of the most preserved villages of Tuscany. The small walled village of Vertine and its undamaged tower that dates back to the Lega del Chianti’s age.

Then we stop at Badia a Coltibuono, an abbey settled up by a community of monks from Vallombrosa in 1051; now it is a farm renewed since antiquity under the name of “Abbazia del Buon raccolto” This route ends at Castello di Brolio, a wonderful mansion of Ricasoli’s family among vineyard. Inside the wall there is a Romanesque church and a neo-Gothic palace in red bricks made by Bettino Ricasoli a famous politician of the XIX century.

This journey ends, in the thirth day, with a nice visit of Siena and two wonderful timeless walled little villages: San Gimignano and Monteriggioni.

Siena: one of the most preserved medieval towns of the world and UNESCO World Heritage. You will be captured by the narrow alleys, the precious Romanesque and Gothic Italian Dome and the wonderful Piazza del Campo, one of the most important square of Italy, renewed as shell-shaped.

This tour, by private car with English speaking driver, continues visiting two pearl of Tuscany: San Gimignano and Monteriggioni. San Gimignano, known as “la cittadina delle belle torri” (the town with beautiful towers) is surrounded by Siena' smooth hillside and offers its visitors great palaces, ancient towers and medieval mansions as well as the wonderful Ghirlandaio’s painted frescos inside the Romanesque collegiate church. This day tour ends at Monteriggioni, a tiny village, closed to traffic and surrounded by a huge XII century wall. It is a jump back to Middle age.
