NewsTHE 2011 HARVEST - 6/1/2012
The prediction of producers and experts are unanimous that the 2011 could apply to be one of the best vintages in recent years. The season, in fact, gave up a few weeks ago a well-balanced fruit. Thanks to a very hilly area and a soil rich in clay for more than the heat of recent days, for the moment, has not compromised this vintage that will enhance the experience and the ability of producers of Chianti Classico. In addition, the Sangiovese - the cornerstone and heart of the Black Rooster - well over the years has set the climate of the Chianti area and has stood up well to the great heat of recent days and benefit from the point of bringing the grapes to mature with one / two weeks ahead of the traditional time. The good performance of the atmospheric conditions found in different seasons of change has certainly contributed to what could be a great vintage for the Black Rooster: a warm winter and rainy late opened the door to a mild spring with rain, around late May and early June, which proved useful to ensure a good supply of water to plants, whose development has proceeded with a slight advance traditional trend. The end of June and the beginning of July hot areas have accelerated the final stages of development of clusters. The August and very hot with no rain helped by the excellent temperature range of the last days, is further urging the bolt to ripen the grapes. "From a health point of view the climate of the season was excellent, I would say almost perfect" specifies Marco Pallanti, President of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico - the grapes arrive in the laboratory until now occur in exceptional health. The complementary range allowed by our Production Specifications (Merlot, Cabernet, etc..), The most notorious being 'early, they are almost ready for harvest. As for the Sangiovese we have, as usual, a little 'more patience and wait a few more weeks. The work of the winemaker teaches us not to anticipate the time because it is the nature that means "to do". The ripening of the grapes is proceeding quickly, regularly, and I am confident "savoire faire" Producers to make everyone at home the best choices allowed them to capitalize on this gift of God: The 2011 Harvest.
